ETEP designs and manufactures rugged airborne and ground recording systems. Their boards are dense, multilayer, and they must hold vibration, temperature and electromagnetic environment for years: the layout is where a good schematic becomes a reliable board, or not.

We are opening a position of PCB layout designer in charge of routing our electronic boards on CAD, according to the design rules, the safety rules and the regulations, and of keeping under control what follows the layout: the component and PCB procurement, the stock, and the cabling operations on boards and chassis.

What you will do

  • Route the electronic boards on Altium Designer from the schematics of the design engineers: stack-up, placement, impedance-controlled and high-speed traces, power and thermal paths, EMC rules, design for manufacturing and for test.
  • Prepare the placement drawings for the soldering of the components, define the bills of materials and produce the complete manufacturing package: Gerber files, drill files, pick-and-place, assembly drawings.
  • Deal with the PCB manufacturers and the assembly subcontractors: technical questions, quotations, incoming inspection of the boards.
  • Manage the procurement of electronic components and printed circuits, and the stock that goes with them, with obsolescence in mind.
  • Manage and follow the cabling operations on boards and chassis; control the boards produced; handle the non-conformities of the electronics department.
  • Take part in the design reviews and quality meetings, apply and enforce the EN 9100 quality rules, keep watch on regulations (electrical safety, substances, standards).

What you bring

  • A two-year technical degree in electronics or the equivalent experience, and real practice of PCB routing on a professional CAD tool; Altium Designer is the tool of the department, its predecessor Protel or a comparable tool is a good start.
  • The habit of reading a schematic and of asking the engineer the right question before placing a component.
  • Knowledge of the design and assembly standards (IPC), of electrical safety standards, and of soldering, gluing and cleaning techniques.
  • Ease with electrical measuring instruments, and with the everyday tools of the department: project follow-up, office suite, an ERP.
  • Rigour and an eye for detail: a routing error is a batch of boards.
  • Technical English, to read a component datasheet and talk to a PCB manufacturer.
