Crash Protected Systems

A lightweight, fully integrated crash-protected airborne data recorder (FDR / CVR / AIR) that also acts as a data-acquisition unit (DAU). Records flight data, cockpit audio and Full HD 1080p or Ultra HD 4K video (1–30 fps) for helicopters, fixed-wing aircraft and UAVs — qualified to DO-160G and MIL-STD-810G.

Purpose-built for flight-test campaigns, crash/impact testing and military or general aviation — on helicopters, fixed-wing aircraft and UAVs — the Sentinel ED-112 folds FDR, CVR and AIR functions into a single crash-protected box that also acts as its own data-acquisition unit (DAU). This delivers a powerful recording solution at minimum cost, weight and size for platforms where a full multi-box installation would be impractical.

The recorder captures serial-bus, analog or internal-sensor data (3-axis gyro, G-force, pressure) alongside four audio channels and Full HD 1080p or Ultra HD 4K video at 1-30 fps, each function operating independently or in combination, recorded in IRIG 106 Chapter 10 or D.T.MUX format. Time synchronisation is available via GPS, IRIG-B or PTP v2, and the optional iRIPS internal battery sustains recording for about 10 minutes after aircraft power is lost.

ED-112A crash-survivable recording

The Sentinel is engineered to the EUROCAE ED-112A crash-survival standard, protecting recorded data, audio and image through impact, fire and immersion. ETEP presents it as the smallest recorder to cover this requirement while still increasing recording capacity. The optional iRIPS internal battery keeps the unit recording for about 10 minutes (±1 min) after aircraft power is lost, and an optional underwater locator beacon (ULB) aids post-incident recovery.

Qualified to DO-160G & MIL-STD-810G

Tested to RTCA DO-160 Rev G (including EMI) and MIL-STD-810G, with MIL-STD-704F / DO-160 power quality: the unit operates from -40 °C to +71 °C (storage -55 °C to +90 °C), up to 60,000 ft with 420 kPa/min decompression, and withstands 5 Hz-2 kHz vibration at 6.29 g RMS, 20 g / 11 ms shock and 20 g linear acceleration. Powered from 28 Vdc (16-36 Vdc) at 12-40 W with 200-800 ms interruption immunity, it carries a computed MTBF above 90,000 hours and uses MIL-DTL-38999 Series III connectors on ARINC 404 mounting (189.5 × 126.2 × 101 mm, ≈3.75 kg).
